BARR Advisory’s core values set a firm foundation for everything we do. They’re at the forefront as we forge new partnerships, hire new associates, create new service lines, and more. That’s why we’ve put together “At Our Core”—a blog series that takes a deeper dive into each of BARR’s core values so you can see them in action. Today’s focus is on our core value of “unparalleled support.”
By providing unparalleled support to our clients, partners, communities, and each other, we are relentless in our pursuit to add more value to the BARR experience.
“This core value is internal and external,” said Swathi West, HITRUST manager. “We support our clients, of course, but we also support each other as a team. Life happens and nothing ever goes as planned, so working for a firm that provides support for me personally and professionally is truly amazing.”
“We support our clients, of course, but we also support each other as a team.”
West adds that when she first started at BARR and spoke to Brad Thies, founder and president, about her desire to start a HITRUST service line, he was immediately supportive.
“Basically if I wanted the responsibility and was willing to do the work, I would have the support I needed to be successful,” she said. “That’s exactly what happened and the support continues today.”
For many associates, the core value of unparalleled support is why they work at BARR.
“I work here because of the people I get to work with,” said Matt Schuster, senior consultant, cyber risk advisory. “We’ve got a great culture where everyone truly promotes and supports each other. The team encourages opportunities for growth.”
Schuster wasn’t the only associate to call out the supportive way associates encourage each other.
“The people at BARR are always recognizing each other and sharing details on how others help them,” said Jeff Hoskins, senior consultant, CISO advisory. “We’re always looking out for each other and celebrating each other, from new business wins to weddings and baby showers to birthdays—it’s a culture that’s all about making each other feel good every day.”

This idea of unparalleled support runs deep, and can also bubble up in the form of touching base with someone at both a professional and personal level.
“Even if you’re not working directly on someone’s team, they’re always checking in and asking how you’re doing and how they can help,” said Mel Marra, client services operations manager. “You can really feel the unparalleled support and strong backbone within the organization.”
Finally, associates talk a lot about how this supportive environment creates opportunities for career progression.
“If there is a role you want to pursue or a task you want to take on, the team finds a way for you to do it,” said Cody Hewell, quality manager. “Your teammates really are here to support you as much as they can.”

Next week, we’ll shine a light on BARR’s core value “transparent” during part two of our “At Our Core” blog series.
