BARR Wraps Up a Successful HIMSS21, Shines Light on Healthcare Security in the Cloud

August 18, 2021 |

Now that BARR Advisory associates have officially returned from the 2021 HIMSS Global Health Conference and Exhibition (HIMSS21), which brought more than 25,000 attendees from around the world, let’s find out about their experiences. Associates not only had a chance to absorb the latest and greatest in healthcare technology, information security, and innovative health solutions, but they also connected with and educated their peers.

“The conference offered a unique mix of learning, teaching, and networking,” said Brad Thies, BARR founder and president, who was an official presenter himself, speaking to a full room on the topic of “Healthcare Cybersecurity in a Cloud Environment” on August 10.

“It was energizing to finally be able to connect with so many people in the safe environment that HIMSS offered. It was humbling to present at such a large event that led to wonderful collaboration on how to use the power of information and technology in our global health ecosystem. With cybersecurity and compliance as such a big part of HIMSS this year, I think we gave our attendees some of the biggest ‘dos and don’ts’ of the various compliance frameworks and security challenges as we shift more data to the cloud.”

For Swathi West, HITRUST manager at BARR, the conference gave BARR an opportunity to share security and compliance expertise with potential clients.

“HIMSS21 also increased BARR’s brand recognition, and gave us a stage to showcase our unique offerings and how we are differentiating ourselves in our industry,” said West. “If this pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that we humans need to work toward the same goal—whether you’re on the client-end or the assessor-end, working toward a common goal makes the world more secure.”

But attending the conference was more than just a professional experience, it was personal as well.

“To be honest, I missed talking with people and networking,” she said. “HIMSS21 helped me get back to that. I was glad to see people and delighted to be back in my element. I spent a lot of time in the start-up and innovation park, and was amazed to learn about new services, products, and technologies. It was incredible to talk to people who believe in what they do.”

The BARR team had a celebrity run-in at HIMSS21—Shaq!

BARR exhibited in the HIMSS21 Cybersecurity Command Center, offering an opportunity for attendees to learn about the company’s healthcare cybersecurity compliance solutions, including HITRUST CSF Certification and HIPAA compliance, along with lots of fun giveaways.

Vince Maduri, account executive, business development, also represented BARR at HIMSS21 and had this to say: “HIMSS was an extremely valuable experience for BARR, both from a knowledge perspective and a brand awareness perspective. We spent some time with experts in the health information systems space to learn current trends affecting their businesses and how we can help them with their security and compliance needs. And we met some great people that we hope to be partnering with for years to come.”
