For this year’s holiday season, particularly for Giving Tuesday on December 3, BARR Advisory is giving back to its hometown by partnering with the United Way of Greater Kansas City for its fourth annual Loads of Love campaign.
The campaign’s goal is to raise $25,000 toward the purchase of washers, dryers and laundry supplies for local schools. Why? Because every day, students in our area miss class due to their lack of access to clean clothes.
“Access to clean clothes is something so many of us take for granted,” said Brad Thies, founder and president of BARR. “Our mission at BARR is to create a more secure world, which typically relates to data security. But in this case, security means a lot more — the security of having laundered clothes to wear to school so that you can take steps toward a life where that is not something you have to worry about.”
United Way has found that having on-site washer and dryer resources within schools leads to improved attendance. These facilities also provide tools for life-skills classrooms and create more parent involvement in the school setting.
“BARR is headquartered in Kansas City,” said Thies. “It’s our home. A home we have, are, and always will invest in because we love it. Opportunities like Loads of Love lead to a better city for us all.”
United Way hopes to make an even bigger impact this year, expanding Loads of Love’s reach outside of Jackson County and across the state line to benefit Shawnee Mission and Belton school districts.
